Friend for life, even in death

Tuesday we lost one of our own.

Collins Cooper was a member of the Roanoke-Chowan Publications family. He wasn’t a fulltime employee, but he was one of us and he will be deeply missed.

He served as a member of our Reader Advisory Board and, as such, helped guide the way we provide coverage to our readers. He was one of the more lively members of our group and always had an opinion and was willing to share it with us.

Collins was quick to offer his congratulations when he thought we did something well and equally quick to let us know when we could have done something better. He was always there to make this newspaper better. He did so because he believed the better we were, the more thorough coverage we could provide to the Roanoke-Chowan region in general and Bertie County in particular.

Words cannot express our gratitude for the hours he spent serving on our board, providing news tips and even covering a story himself. His dedication and support will always be something for which we are thankful.

We express our deepest condolences to his wife, Linda, his two children, Paula and Thomas, and especially his beloved grandchildren, Jessica and Landon.

This newspaper is better because of Collins Cooper and we will strive to continue to strive to meet the standards of excellence he set for us.
