MURFREESBORO – It took the Lady Braves a mere minute and 31 seconds to score the first of seven goals on the day as Chowan rolled past Faulkner University 7-1 here Sunday afternoon.

It was Lisa Knieriemen that struck first when she turned and shot from 35 yards out.

The ball sailed past the keeper’s hands and snuck in just behind the right post for the 1-0 lead.

Fifteen minutes later Stephanie Montague dribbled through the Eagles defense and beat the keeper to increase the Braves lead to two.

Chowan would score once more in the first half when Kermit Abernathy found herself one on one with the Eagles goalie.

She took full advantage, finding the back of the net to give her squad the 3-0 advantage going into the break.

The second half began much like the first when a Montague cross found a waiting Veronica Austin a mere minute and 59 seconds into play.

Austin’s redirect into the net increased the Chowan lead to 4-0.

Faulkner would get on the board when they converted on a penalty kick at the 52:15 mark.

It would prove to be their only goal however, as the Braves continued to roll.

Abernathy would find the back of the net a second time when she beat two defenders and scored to increase the advantage to 5-1.

Four minutes later a Casey Driver pass found Amanda &uot;Ohio&uot; Cothern.

Cothern sent a floater over the head of the Eagles keeper for the score.

With the match almost over, Knieriemen would score again when she followed a shot and sent the rebound into goal.

Her score would be the last of the day and gave her Braves’ squad the 7-1 victory.

The win improves Chowan’s record to 2-4 on the season.

They will travel to Virginia Military Institute on Tuesday and will host Bluefield College next Saturday for a 4 pm kickoff.
