WINDSOR – Sometimes help is unsolicited.

Thanks to local newspaper accounts of the plight of the Bertie County Animal Shelter, a local business decided to help.

William Ayscue, the owner and operator of Hotsy Equipment in Woodland, donated a pressure washer to the animal shelter late last week.

The native of Bertie County said he had read the information about the shelter needing the equipment and wanted to do something to help his native county.

Bertie County Sheriff Greg Atkins and his department have spearheaded the renovation of the animal shelter and have worked diligently to try to improve conditions for animals in the shelter and bring up the adoption rate.

&uot;This is an important donation,&uot; Atkins said. &uot;We are thankful that Mr. Ayscue and Hotsy would come to us and make such a generous offer.

&uot;The equipment is something we really needed,&uot; Atkins continued. &uot;It will definitely be valuable as we continue to try and make this animal shelter better.&uot;

In addition to Ayscue, Hotsy SouthEast Regional Manager Tad Fleming came to Windsor to help with the presentation of the power washer.

That equipment is one of dozens of cleaning products offered by Hotsy, which Ayscue has operated in Woodland since January of 1986.
