Joanna Lawrence Rollman

GREENSBORO – Joanna Lawrence Rollman of Greensboro died December 27, 2005 at NC Memorial Hospital after a brief but brave battle with cancer.

She was greatly loved by her family and her friends, she enriched the lives of all she knew, and already is deeply missed.

Mrs. Rollman, 59, was a native of Raleigh, NC and was the only child of John Scarborough Lawrence and Anna Spiers Lawrence.

She was a graduate of Broughton High School, held a B.S. degree from Wake Forest University, and received the M.Ed. degree from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.

She leaves to honor her memory her devoted and loving husband Roger Francis, son Sean Francis and daughter-in-law Melissa of Raleigh, NC, son Lawrence McDonald of Greensboro, and granddaughter Devin Emily of Greensboro, NC.

Her love of music, and especially singing, was seen throughout her life.

She had been a member of the choir of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Winston-Salem for many years prior to moving to Greensboro.

More recently, she was a member of St. Francis Episcopal Church in Greensboro where she sang in the choir.

Her beautiful voice will be missed by all.

Joanna also derived great pleasure from historic preservation.

She was a talented renovator and interior decorator.

She was appointed by NC Governor Mike Easley to the Murfreesboro (NC) Historical Commission.

Her family had come from Murfreesboro and nearby Como, NC.

Her dedication to the Murfreesboro area was evidenced by her enthusiastic support of the Murfreesboro Historical Association and other local causes.

The funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Francis Episcopal Church, 3506 Lawndale Dr., Greensboro, NC and burial at Historic Oakwood Cemetery, Raleigh, NC at 3 p.m. Saturday.

The family will receive friends at the Hanes-Lineberry N. Elm St. Funeral Home Friday 7-8:30 PM.

George Norfleet Sr.

ROXOBEL n George Washington “J.T.” Norfleet Sr., 79, a native of Bertie County, died December 25, 2005 at Roanoke-Chowan Hospital, Ahoskie.

A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday at Sandy Branch Baptist Church, Roxobel, by the Rev. Lycurgus Harrell. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Wilder’s Funeral Home, Inc., Aulander, is in charge.

Survivors include his wife, Juanita Williams Norfleet of Roxobel; sons, George W. Norfleet Jr. of Roxobel, Lionel Norfleet of Lewiston and Thomas Williams of Rich Square; a daughter, Felicia Bishop of Roxobel; a sister, Beulah Mae Williams; 15 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.

James Wright

ROCKY MOUNT n James Earl Wright, 68, died December 29, 2005 at Pitt Memorial Hospital, Greenville.

K. Beasley Eason

GATES – Kenneth Beasley Eason, 66, a native of Gates County, died December 28, 2005 in Roanoke-Chowan Hospital, Ahoskie.

Eason worked many years at Newport News Shipbuilding and Drydock as a welding specialist and later worked with Family Foods of Gates. He had served in the Army and was a member of Reynoldson Baptist Church.

Survivors include cousins.

Graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday in Somerton United Methodist Church Cemetery by the Rev. Billy Presley. Miller Funeral Home, Gatesville, is in charge.

William M. Johnson

TARBORO – William Marvin Johnson, 83, died December 27, 2005. He was the widower of Emily Lane Johnson.

Johnson was a veteran of World War II.

Survivors include his daughters, Deborah Sue Ray of Colerain and Darlene Kaufman of Virginia Beach, Va.; son, William M. Johnson Jr. of Tarboro; stepdaughters, Terra Scott of Hobgood and Marcia Golding of Miami, Fla.; stepson, Sam Golding of Philadelphia, Pa.; sisters, Doris Lucas of Tarboro, Clara Geiler of Virginia Beach and Dolly McKnight of San Diego, Calif.; eight grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

A funeral was held Friday at Carlisle Funeral Home. Burial was in Edgecombe Memorial Park.

Walter H. Shearin

SMITHFIELD -Walter House Shearin, 90, a native of Warrenton, died December 29, 2005, after a long illness.

Shearin was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church for 70 years. He was a member of Khedive Shrine Temple, Independent Order of Odd Fellows, Scottish Rites, Smithfield Union Lodge No. 18, a 51-year Mason and a member of Suffolk Shrine Club.

Survivors include his wife, Grace Carter Shearin; daughter, Evelyn Doggett; one sister, Lizzie S. Clary of Gaston; and two grandchildren.

A funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Saturday in Trinity United Methodist Church by the Rev. Will Montgomery. Burial will be in St. Luke’s Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the residence. Memorial donations may be made to Trinity United Methodist Building Fund, 201 Cedar St., Smithfield, Va.

Viola R. Perry

RICH SQUARE n Viola Reid Perry, 86, a native of Northampton County, died December 28, 2005 at Our Community Hospital, Scotland Neck.

A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at Rich Square First Baptist Church by the Rev. William C. Clark. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Wilder’s Funeral Home, Inc., Aulander, is in charge.

Mrs. Perry was a member of Rich Square First Baptist Church, the choir, the Missionary Circle and the Ladies Aide Club.

Survivors include a son, Harvey O. Perry of Murfreesboro; and a sister, Bernice Boone of Woodland.

Carolyn A. Williams

INDIANAPOLIS, IN – Carolyn Askew Williams, 59, of Indianapolis, IN and formerly of Ahoskie, NC, passed away December 29, 2005.

Mrs. Williams was born December 28, 1946 in Suffolk, Virginia.

She was a caseworker supervisor at Family and Children Services for the State of Indiana for 27 years and was a former member of First Baptist Church of Ahoskie, NC.

Survivors include her husband, Jerry L. Williams; her son, Douglas P.

Williams; her mother, Violet Askew and her brother, Edward Askew.

Her father, Carlyle Askew preceded her in death.

A graveside service will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Monday, January 2,

2006 at Highland Memorial Gardens, Ahoskie.

Final care and arrangements have been entrusted to G. H. Herrmann Madison Ave. Funeral Home, Indianapolis. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be given to the American Cancer Society, 6030 W. 62nd St., Indianapolis, IN 46278.

Robert Willoughby

FORT WORTH, TX – Robert Lee Willoughby, 83, formerly of Ahoskie, died December 14, 2005.

Willoughby was a native of Hertford County and served in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific During World War II.

Survivors include a son, Robert Lee Willoughby, Jr. of Fort Worth, Texas; a brother, William Preston Willoughby of Lake Tahoe, Nevada; and a sister, Martha Ann Willoughby of West Palm Beach. Fla.

Ileana Casiano

CORAPEAKE – Ileana Casiano, 39, a native of Brooklyn, N.Y., died December 29, 2005.

Mrs. Casiano was the co-pastor of El Taller Del Carpintero, Winton.

She was a registered nurse at Shance Hospital, Jacksonville, FL.

Survivors include her husband, the Rev. Angel Casiano of Corapeake;

two sons, nAngelo Casiano and Brandon Casiano, both of Corapeake;

one daughter,

Ileana J. Casiano of Corapeake;

seven brothers, Nelson Cruz of Orlando, FL, Hector Cruz, Santiago Cruz, Geraldo Cruz, Edouardo Cruz and Eugene Cruz, all of Jacksonville, FL and Louis Cruz of Pensacola; and four sisters,

Carmen Cruz, Vivian Cruz, Nydia Cruz and Nanette Lamb, all of Jacksonville.

Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday at Carpenter Shop Church by Rev. Wallace Phillips and Rev. David Metz.

Interment will be at Highland Memorial Gardens, Ahoskie. Hunter’s Funeral Home, Ahoskie is in charge.

WOODLAND n Willie Clifton Lassiter, 74, died December 28, 2005.

A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Jerusalem Baptist Church, Woodland, by the Rev. Jane Mann. Burial will be in the church cemetery. A visitation will be held from 2 to 8 p.m. Monday at Smith-Whidbee Funeral Home, Rich Square.
