AULANDER – Milton Ray Morris, age 72, of Francis Mill Road, Aulander, died Monday, January 16, 2012 at his home.

Mr. Morris was born in Bertie County on April 3, 1939, a son of the late Frank Marion and Emma Tripp Morris. He was an active member of Center Grove Baptist Church and was retired as deputy sheriff of Bertie County after 30 years of service.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Pamela McSwain Morris; a daughter, Sherri L. Morris and her husband, Erik B. Jernigan, of Wake Forest; a son, Michael Ray Morris of Aulander; and two sisters, Marian Smithwick of Franklin, VA and Joann Sharber of Kinston.

The family will receive friends at Garrett-Jones Funeral Home in Ahoskie from 7:00 until 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday, January 18, and other times at the home.

A celebration of life service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Thursday, January 19, 2012 at Center Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Mark Corbett and the Rev. Alan Mizelle officiating.  Burial will follow in Hoggard Memorial Cemetery, Lewiston-Woodville.
