Only three Roanoke-Chowan area incumbents will be unopposed as they seek reelection to district offices.

6B District Court Judges Al Kwasikpui and W. Rob Lewis are each seeking to return to the bench in 2006 and will do so after no one filed against either incumbent.

Also running unopposed will be United States Congressman G.K. Butterfield (D-1st).

While both District Court Judges and the congressman are unopposed, every other regional office will see political hopefuls opposing incumbents.

In the race for Judicial District 6B Attorney, Murfreesboro lawyer Don Carter has filed against incumbent Valerie Mitchell-Asbell. The two will vie for the Democratic nomination for the seat.

Also facing opposition is State Senator Robert Holloman (D-4th). Senator Holloman, who will be the Democratic nominee and faces no challenge in May, is being opposed by Kenneth R. &uot;Ken&uot; Chandler, a Republican from Weldon.

Chandler ran an unsuccessful campaign for mayor of Weldon last year, losing to incumbent Johnny Draper.

Veteran North Carolina Representative Howard Hunter Jr. (D-5th) will also face opposition in November as Kyle Jones of Hertford filed as a Republican.

District 27 House member Michael Wray (D-Northampton) will face two challengers in the May primary.

Filing Friday was a Vance County man – Anthony Butler who is seeking the Democratic nomination. He is from Henderson.

Last week Garysburg resident Howard Ervin filed for the same seat.

The three men, all Democrats, will meet in the May primary.
