AULANDER – Three weeks ago, Phillip Gerald White was arrested for three misdemeanor counts of larceny for stealing fuel from the Town of Aulander.

Less than a week after his arrest for that incident, he apparently began stealing peanut trailers from an area off NC 11 Business near Aulander.

White, 31, of 407 Broad Street, was charged Thursday with four counts of felony possession of a stolen vehicle and eight felony counts of obtaining property by false pretense.

According to Detective Sergeant Ed Pittman with the Bertie County Sheriff’s Office, White stole eight peanut trailers over the course of a couple of weeks.

&uot;He would hook the trailers up to a truck one at a time and haul them to a recycling facility where he sold them for scrap metal,&uot; Pittman stated.

Four trailers had already been crushed and scrapped by the time the crime was discovered.

White was placed under a $29,000 secured bond. His first court appearance is scheduled for next week.
