GREENVILLE – A pedestrian who was struck near Lewiston on October 15 has passed away due to his injuries.

William Rascoe, 79, of Kelford, died at Pitt Memorial Hospital Tuesday after his life support was removed.

A friend of the family told the Roanoke-Chowan News-Herald that Rascoe’s family decided to take him off life support after it became apparent he would not recover.

The night of October 15, Rascoe apparently ventured across NC 11 at the exact same moment a car was passing in that spot.

The 1991 Honda passenger car hit Rascoe traveling at about 55-60 miles per hour.

Rascoe was initially transported via ambulance to Roanoke-Chowan Hospital, but was later airlifted to Pitt Memorial Hospital, where he remained until his death Tuesday.

The driver of the Honda, Guadalupe Moreno, 43, of Greenville, was initially charged with driving without a license, but no other charges were filed.

&uot;The driver was clearly coming down the road and in his lane of traffic so there will be no additional charges,&uot; stated Sgt. J.T. Lane of the North Carolina Highway Patrol.

Two motorists who had broken down on the side of the road witnessed the accident and verified how it took place.
