AHOSKIE – A change in location didn’t change the outcome as Northeast Academy’s golf team notched another conference win for the Eagles.

The match, featuring the six Tarheel Independent Conference teams, was played at Beechwood Country Club. Originally scheduled for Ironwood in Greenville, the match was moved to Ahoskie at the last minute due to a conflict.

“The other coaches and I really appreciate the staff at Beechwood letting us play there given such short notice,” said Northeast Head Coach Scott Emory.

Northeast won the match, held April 29, by 10 shots with a score of 341. Terra Ceia Christian School was second and Lawrence Academy combined for a 363, good enough for third place.

Albemarle’s Bo Thompson, currently ranked number one in the state, and the Eagles’ Justin Barnes were co-medalists with scores of 75.

Payne Snow of Terra Ceia was next with a 76 and Lawrence Academy’s Sam Mitchell has the third lowest individual score, shooting a 79.

Virginia Lane shot an 81 for Ridgecroft, good enough for fourth.

According to Emory, rain the day prior to the match affected the overall scores as they were higher than in past matches.

The win at Beechwood came on the heels of another Northeast victory. The Eagles shot a 338 to win by 18 shots in the match held at the Chowan Golf and Country Club on April 24.

“The biggest factor in the win was Will Allen’s score,” said Emory.

Allen had a 79, his lowest round of the year, to lead Northeast.

Also taking on the course for Northeast were Barnes (81), Parker Brown (85), Chris Futrell (93), Brodie Harrell (97) and Jay Baugham (104).

The top four scores are combined for the team score.

Terra Ceia’s team was second with a 356 and Lawrence shot a 363 for third.

Lawrence was led by Sheev Patidar, who shot a 78, followed by Mitchell (79), John Summerford (97) and Aadil Amod (109).

Also competing for the Warriors were Brian McGrady and Wilson Green.

Virginia Lane was the top golfer for Ridgecroft with an 87.

She was joined on the course by Bobby Edwards who shot a 106 as the only golfers for the Rams.
