WINDSOR – Filing ended on Friday, July 1 for three seats on the non-partisan Bertie County Board of Education as well as for two seats on the county’s Soil and Water Conservation District Board of Supervisors.

School Board incumbents Rickey Freeman of Windsor (District 2) and Christine Dudley of Aulander (District 3) filed for reelection. Neither will face opposition in the General Election on Nov. 8.

There will be a race for the third open seat (District 4) in this year’s election cycle. Vivian B. Saunders filed on June 30 followed by Vernette M. (Vernetta) Henderson prior to the 12 noon deadline on July 1. Both women are from Lewiston Woodville.

The District 3 seat is currently held by Norman Cherry, who chose not to seek another term on the School Board.

Blount Knowles and Chad Whitehead, both of Windsor, filed in mid-June for the two seats on the Soil and Water Conservation District Board of Supervisors.

The filing period opened on June 13.
