EURE, NC – Celia Penelope Eure Foutz, 100, of Eure, NC peacefully passed away on March 25, 2021 at home with family by her side.

Born in Gates County, NC on November 26, 1920, Celia was the last surviving of 11 children born to the late Oscar E. and Mary Louvenia Greene Eure. She graduated from Gatesville High School in 1941 and later retired from many years working retail.

Celia grew up at Eure Christian Church. She was also a member of Bethel Baptist Church in Chesapeake, VA, and a member of Gatesville Baptist Church for 35 years where she taught an Adult Sunday School Class and was a member of the Woman’s Missionary Union. She enjoyed being able to help others and take them to their medical appointments when she was able to drive. Celia was always willing to give and do for others and was a volunteer with the Gates Emergency Ministry.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Claude Ambler Foutz, Sr., and a grandson, David Scott Foutz.

Her greatest joy was spending time with her family, and to them she was known as “Nanny.” Her legacy is her four children, Phyllis Allen (Lucky) of Virginia Beach, VA, Claude Foutz (Nancy) of Chesapeake, VA, Wayne Foutz (Connie) of Eure, NC, and Beverly Williams (Wade) of Monroe, NC; grandchildren: Debbie, Becky, Karen, Glenda, Denise, Sandie, Ginny, Shane, and Audra; 18 great-grandchildren, and six great-great grandchildren.

Celia worked hard her whole life to care for and serve others with Christian values. She will always be remembered for the way she lived her life, and the special relationships she had with her many cousins and friends.

A small private service for the immediate family will be held in Eure Christian Church and will be conducted by the Rev. Wade Bennett and the Rev. Dr. Wayne Proctor.

A graveside service, open to extended family and friends, will be held Monday, March 29 at 12 noon on the family plot at Eure Christian Church.

Memorial contributions may be made to Eure Christian Memorial Fund, 872 NC 137, or to the Eure Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, P.O. Box 70, both in Eure, NC 27935, or to the Gatesville Baptist Memorial Fund, P.O. Box 167, Gatesville, NC 27938.

Due to the pandemic, the family is asking for no visitation in the home at this time, but a celebration of Celia’s life will be held in the future where they will enjoy your fellowship.
