Wilhelmine B. Askew

LUMBERTON, NC – Wilhelmine Brantley Askew, age 93, passed away on Tuesday, July 17, 2018.

Born in Nash County, NC on April 17, 1925, she was the daughter of the late Bernice Brantley and Fannie Tunstall Brantley. She was also preceded in death by her first husband, Arthur Darel “A.D.” Parrish; and brothers, Bernice “Buster” Brantley, Carl Brantley, Oscar “Bully” Brantley, Robert Brantley, Earl Brantley, and Jerry Brantley.

Wilhelmine worked at F. W. Woolworth in downtown Rocky Mount. F. W. Woolworth moved their location to North Hills Mall in Raleigh and asked her to be their head bookkeeper and she did. After one year of semi-retirement, Wilhelmine worked at Garretts Funeral Home as a bookkeeper until she was 80 years of age. She loved fishing from a pier on the beach and collecting shells. She enjoyed her flowers she had on her back porch and yard. She loved spending time with her family and making memories she dearly cherished.

Wilhelmine leaves behind to cherish her memory, husband, Earl Glenn Askew of Aulander; and daughter, Sharon Parrish Vick and husband, Tony, of Lumberton. She is also survived by grandchildren, Darel Ryan Vick and wife, Julie, and Crystal Vick Rose and husband, Mike; great-grandchildren, Noah Michael Vick and Camden Thomas Vick; sister, Geraldine Brantley Langley of Laurel Springs; and several nieces and nephews.

A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, May 21, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Wheeler & Woodlief Funeral Home & Cremation Services (1130 N. Winstead Avenue, Rocky Mount, NC 27804). Burial will follow the service at Rocky Mount Memorial Park.

Visitation with the family will be from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. prior to the service in the Atrium of Wheeler & Woodlief Funeral Home.
