AHOSKIE – Brackets and pairings are all finalized for the Area-One junior American Legion baseball tournament set to begin tomorrow (Wed.) here at Hertford County High School Field.

The tournament is double-elimination and the overall winner will advance to the state tournament beginning next week in Manteo.

“Originally, there were to be eight teams participating – four from each division, East and West”, said Ahoskie Post 102 Athletic Officer Johnnie Ray Farmer, “but Bear Grass Post 171 dropped out and no one else, neither Wake Forest Post 187 or Albemarle Post 84 wanted to take their spot so we have seven teams.”

With that formula, undefeated and West #1, the Windsor Post 37 Rebels – now receive a bye. Play for the other six teams will now begin on Wednesday at 1p.m. The Opening Ceremony will take place on Wednesday evening at 7 pm.

At 1 pm Wednesday #2East Perquimans Post 126 will take on #3West Wilson Post 13 in the first game of the four-day event.

At 4 pm, #2West Clayton Post 71 against #3East Dare County Post 26.

The night game, at 7 pm, will have #1East Ahoskie Post 102 meeting #4East Edenton Post 40.

Prior to the start of that game the opening ceremonies will take place, featuring all seven teams lining up down the foul lines along with all veterans and active Military Service personnel. The Ahoskie Fire Fighters’ Honor Guard will present the Nations Colors, followed by the Invocation, the singing of the National Anthem, a welcome from local dignitaries, and the tossing out of the ceremonial first pitch.

Games will continue Thursday, Friday, and Saturday – three games each day, provided the weather holds – with the Championship Game set for Sunday at 1 pm.
