GATESVILLE – For the first time in nearly three years, the Gates County Sheriff’s Office has a murder investigation on its hands.

According to online media reports, Gates County Sheriff Randy Hathaway said two individuals were shot at a building known as “The Cluhhouse” – located at the intersection of US 13 and Gatlington Road.

One of the victims was taken to a hospital in Greenville where they later died. The other victim suffered what was termed as non-life threatening injuries.

The names of the victims were not immediately made available.

There was no information about a suspect or suspects in the shooting.

Sheriff Hathaway said the call came into his office at around 2 a.m. Sunday.

The murder was the first in Gates County since June 13, 2015. Then, Calvin Bell of Hobbsville was found deceased in a farm field adjacent to his home on NC 37. He died of a gunshot wound. Two men stand charged with murder in that case.
