WINDSOR – Pennaritta Tayloe “Penny” Thompson, 74, of Robert Street, Windsor, passed away Sunday, January 1, 2017 in Vidant Inpatient Hospice, Greenville.

Mrs. Thompson was born in Edgecombe County on May 9, 1942, and was the daughter of the late Walter Sidney and Lena Moore Rawls Tayloe.  A retired high school teacher from Bertie High School having taught for 32 years, she attended Windsor United Methodist Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, David Gray Thompson, Sr.; and by a brother, Sid Tayloe and his wife Ann.

Surviving are her daughter, Leana Wynne and husband Doug of Powellsville; a step-daughter, Hope Thompson of Windsor; a brother, Bobby Tayloe and wife Theresa of Wilmington; two grandchildren, Alexis Becker and Shane Wynne; and several nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

A memorial service was held Wednesday, January 4 in the Ahoskie Cemetery.  Friends may join the family at Leana and Doug’s home, 402 Bethlehem Church Road, Powellsville.
