AHOSKIE – On Sunday, Oct. 23, the First Baptist Church in Ahoskie was full of friends, family, and well-wishers to celebrate the 100th birthday of Margaret Springfield.

She received a birthday card from the US President and the First Lady and recognition from as far away as Texas.

Congressman Randy Neugebauer sent a US flag that was flown over the U.S. Capitol along with a declaration signed by Congressman Neugebauer.  Margaret and her family lived in Texas for a number of years and remain connected through friends.

She also was recognized by NC Governor Pat McCrory with a certificate and letter in honor of her 100 years. In addition, she received a letter from the Hertford County Board of Commissioners congratulating her on this special milestone.   Last but not least, she received a letter of congratulations from Ahoskie Mayor Jimmie Rowe along with an Ahoskie keepsake coin.

Margaret has never let her age stop her from doing what she can to make a difference and help others.  Even now she has made it her mission to call others on their special day and sing happy birthday to them.

Over the years, she served as a Sunday School teacher, Women’s Missionary Union Group leader, choir member, deaconess, and hostess committee member at First Baptist Church

She was also a member of the Ahoskie Garden Club for many years.

Margaret is respected and loved by many as evident by the outpouring of love and the vast number of those in attendance to help celebrate this special day.
