MURFREESBORO – In the next few weeks town officials here are expecting information that may shed some light on what caused the recent water contamination.

The Murfreesboro Town Council met Tuesday in a regularly scheduled meeting. There, Councilman Billy Theodorakis (who is the Public Works Commissioner) reported he along with Public Works Director Gene Byrd would be meeting with the contractor for the company responsible for the maintenance on the town’s water tanks in the next couple of weeks.

“We should have a lot more information about the situation and the reason,” he said.

Theodorakis added he expected that information sometime after November 29.

“It should be interesting,” said Mayor John Hinton.

On November 4, a possible problem with the town’s water system was detected during routine testing for this month and a boil water advisory was issued. Additional testing revealed the presence of E. coli/fecal coliform bacteria in the town’s water system, prompting a drinking water warning, a boil water notice and forcing local restaurants to close their doors for three days.
