WINDSOR – FEMA Disaster Recovery Centers in eight counties, including Bertie and Hertford, closed effective Saturday, Nov. 6, but additional assistance to those affected locally by the recent flooding is on its way.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency and North Carolina disaster recovery specialists will join U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) representatives to answer questions and review applications. Recovery specialists can supply contacts for other programs that may be able to help.

An SBA Center is scheduled to open in Bertie County on Monday, Nov. 8. The Center will be located at the former site of the FEMA Disaster Center – the Bertie County Council on Aging, 103 West School Street, Windsor.

Operating hours are 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday through Nov. 16, except for Veterans Day, Thursday, Nov. 11.

To be eligible for state, FEMA or SBA assistance, homeowners and renters can register with FEMA online at www.DisasterAssistance.gov or by calling 800-621-FEMA (3362) or (TTY) 800-462-7585. Applicants can use the same telephone numbers to check on their FEMA registration by pressing the Helpline option.

The SBA Disaster Customer Service Center toll-free number is 800-659-2955 or (TTY) 800-877-8339. Help is also available by sending an e-mail to disastercustomerservice@sba.gov or by going online at www.sba.gov/services/disasterassistance.

Loan applications can be made online at SBA’s secure website: https://disasterloan.sba.gov/ela/.
