WINDSOR – Two hundred and seven years after it was built, the Hope mansion at Hope Plantation remains as a hub for entertaining those who make their way to the historic property.

That centuries old streak continues on Saturday, Nov. 6 when the centerpiece of the plantation – the Hope mansion – will be dressed in the vivid colors of autumn.

The annual Harvest Time at Historic Hope will be held from 2-10 p.m., an event that promises to be packed with food and fun for the entire family.

The afternoon portion of the event (2-5:30 p.m.) features demonstrations and historic reenactments. Admission for the afternoon is free for children, ages 12-and-under. General admission for adults is $10. Free food will be available.

Those in attendance can enjoy carriage rides or simply relax on an old-fashioned hayride.

Those looking for unique arts and crafts can shop at the numerous vendor displays.

There will be plenty of music and dancing as well as tours of the historic homes on the property. Tour guides will be dressed in costume.

Adults are invited to make this an entire day and night of fun. For $35 in advance ($40 at the gate), grown-ups can enjoy the afternoon festivities as well as a seafood dinner, complete with dancing, that night until 10 p.m.

The event is sponsored by the Historic Hope Foundation, a non-profit organization that owns and manages 45 acres of the original 1,051-acre site owned by the Stone family.

The mission of the Historic Hope Foundation Inc is to provide educational, cultural and recreational benefits for the public by the preservation, maintenance and the administration of Historic Hope Plantation as an element of the heritage of the Roanoke-Chowan Region and as an illustration and interpretation of agrarian life in Eastern North Carolina from 1760 through 1840.
