Chester William Byrum, Sr.

WOODLAND – Mr. Chester William Byrum, Sr., age 85, died at Our Community Hospital in Scotland Neck on Tuesday, January 1, 2013.

Mr. Byrum was a native of Bertie County, however made his home in Northampton County where he lived most of his life.  He was married to Edith Marie Joyner in 1954 on to this marriage was born four children.  Mr. Byrum worked for Parker Manufacturing for forty years until retiring. He was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Aulander. Mr. Byrum enjoyed and loved fishing.

Preceding him in death is his wife, Edith Joyner Byrum and his mother and father, Nellie and Charlie Byrum.

Survivors include his two daughters, Elizabeth B. Parker and Linwood Morris of Woodland, Alice B. Parker and her husband, Glenn, of Ahoskie; two sons, Chester William Bryum, Jr. and his wife, Lori, of St. John and William Wayne Byrum of Raleigh; and two sisters, Nellie Mae Morris of Scotland Neck and Sissy Hathaway of Roanoke Rapids.  Also surviving are five grandchildren, Chrystal Lynn White, Nancy and Phyllis Futrell, April McGill and Kelly Byrum; and seven great grandchildren, Caitlyn White, Roslynn Morris, James Lynn, Brianna Robinson, Kaitlyn and Shane McGill, Jr. and Khloe Olmstead.

Funeral services will be conducted on Friday, January 4, 2013 at 2 p.m. at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Aulander with the Rev. Bob Deacon officiating.  The interment will follow at the Woodland Cemetery in Woodland.

The family will receive friends at Garrett-Sykes Funeral Service in Rich Square on Thursday, January 3 from 7:00-8:30 p.m.
