WINDSOR – The Lady Falcons are off to a 3-1 start.

Bertie High School claimed a Northeastern Coastal Conference victory over Pasquotank County High School Tuesday to capture their third win this season.

“We’re off to a successful start,” veteran BHS Tennis Coach Jackie Copeland said. “When the season started, I asked three things of my team – work hard, have a positive attitude and have fun. I think we’re doing all three so far.”

Tuesday, the Lady Falcons dismantled PCHS as they took an 8-1 win.

Second-seeded Haley Williams got things started for the Lady Falcons with a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Tabitha Phillips. Third-seeded Brook Bowen also secured victory with a 6-3, 7-5 decision over Emma Finley.

Lindsey Faella won the battle of number four seeds over Abigail Beasley by a count of 7-5, 6-2 and Lauren Dunlow won at number five, defeating Hailey Pelton by a 6-2, 6-0 final.

Bertie finished their winning ways in singles competition when Windy Todd topped Daysja Phillips by a 6-4, 6-1 count.

The only loss for the Lady Falcons came at number one where Kathleen Leary topped Bertie’s Tori Dunlow by dual counts of 6-1.

In doubles action, Dunlow and Bowen secured an 8-0 win over Leary and Phillips. That was a trend that continued as Williams and Todd defeated Finley and Beasley by the same score.

The number three matchup saw Lauren Dunlow and Faella win 8-0 over Pelton and Phillips.

“Haley has started the season well,” Copeland said. “It’s her senior season and I know it she wants to make it a good one.

“Lindsey is starting for the first time this season and has had some tough matches,” the coach added. “I’m proud of her and the rest of the team for their work.”

In addition to the starters, the Falcons have on their roster Samantha Dawson, Morgan Howell, Ashley Burkett and Adrian Orbita. Jessica White is the team manager.
