Florence Slade Jordan, 91, died Monday, May 25, 2009 at Three Rivers Convalescent Home, Windsor.
A native of Bertie County, she worked as an educational advocate in North Carolina and New York.
She was a 50-plus year member of Ashland Missionary Baptist Church in Merry Hill where she sang in the Senior Choir and served on the Usher Board and Hospitality Committee.
Survivors include her husband, Marshall Jordan; two sons, Herman Capehart of Fayetteville and Johnnie L. Capehart of Cheltenham, MD; a sister, Erma Cofield of Ahoskie; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, May 30 at Ashland Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Willie J. Best Jr. officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Cherry Funeral Home, Windsor, was in charge of the arrangements.
