WINDSOR – There’s a 100 percent chance that a Roanoke-Chowan area girls softball team will represent District 7 at the 10U Tar Heel League State Tournament.

Cashie and Ahoskie have advanced to the District 7 championship round and will meet at 6 pm today (Monday) at Davis Park in Windsor with a trip to the state finals on the line.

The game is a rematch of a first round game on Thursday at the District 7 tournament. Cashie won that game, 1-0, and then defeated Pocosin, 9-0, and Currituck, 4-1, to reach the District finals.

Ahoskie bounced back. They advanced through the losers bracket of this double-elimination tournament with four straight wins by shutout: 8-0 vs. Roanoke Valley, 10-0 vs. Camden, 14-0 vs. Perquimans, and 8-0 vs. Currituck.

Ahoskie is forced to defeat Cashie twice in a row to win the District 7 title. If Ahoskie wins today’s 6 pm game, the two teams will play again at 8 pm to determine the champion.

Today’s round of the District 7 softball tournament also includes other age groups. In 12U action, Cashie and Perquimans meet at 6 pm followed by an 8 pm game between Gates County and Roanoke Valley. The winner of those two games advance to an 8 pm game on Tuesday.

The District 7 tournament concluded this weekend for two age groups. Camden County defeated Cashie, 13-0, to win the 8U title. Roanoke Valley won the 16U title with a 16-1 win over Cashie.
