Bertie School Board filing opens June 10

WINDSOR – Candidates seeking seats on the non-partisan Bertie County Board of Education can begin filing at 12 noon on Monday, June 10.

There are two seats on the school board up for grabs during the Nov. 5 General Election. Those seats represent District 1 and District 5, which are currently held by Reba Cooper Carlton and Tarsha Dudley respectively.

To seek a seat on the Bertie Board of Education, candidates must be 21 years of age, a registered voter, and reside in the District they would represent if elected.

School Board terms are for four years.

The filing fee is $60. The filing fee may be paid with an individual personal check or money order, payable to the Bertie County Board of Elections. Business or corporate checks are not accepted.

Filing will also begin on June 10 for one seat on the Bertie County Soil and Water Conservation District Board of Supervisors. Those are also four-year terms. The filing fee is $5.

Candidates seeking election to the Soil and Water Board must be 21 years of age. There is no requirement to reside in a particular district.

Notices of Candidacy, together with the proper filing fee, must be in the possession of the Bertie County Board of Elections by the deadline to be accepted. Filing ends at 12 noon on Friday, July 5.
