COLERAIN – Barbara Sue White Davidson, age 93 passed away on Sunday, May 19, 2024 at her daughter’s, Deborah’s home in Centreville, Virginia. Mrs. Davidson was born in Bertie County, NC on December 19, 1930 to the late Joe and Nell Taylor White of the Merry Hill community. She graduated from Merry Hill High School and later married Walter Everett Davidson, Jr of the Colerain/Trap community on December 29, 1950. Barbara Sue was a loving and devoted mother and wife. She worked on the farm, especially during tobacco and peanut growing seasons and worked closely with Everett performing payroll and other administrative duties. She was a great cook and enjoyed cooking delicious meals for the family even during the busy farming season. Barbara Sue was recognized for making some of the best peanut brittle in the area. She took pride in keeping a clean and tidy house.

Barbara Sue loved her family, community, and church. She enjoyed going to basketball games to watch her children and grandchildren compete. She and Everett were committed to making sure all of the children obtained a good education with all graduating from college. Her favorite hobbies were quilting and working with plants and flowers in the yard. Barbara Sue was a long-time member of Mars Hill Baptist Church. She was a Sunday School teacher, choir member, WMU circle group member and was one of the first female deacons to serve the church. In her later years she and Everett traveled across the country and to Germany to spend time with family.

Besides her parents, Barbara Sue was preceded in death by her loving husband, Everett; sisters, Edith White Ward, Nell White Byrum; and brothers, Jessie Walton White and Joe Taylor White.

Left to cherish her memory is brother, Bill White and wife Gina of Windsor, NC; and sister, Shirley White Miller of Merry Hill, NC; daughter, Deborah Dratch and husband Scott of Centreville, Va.; sons, Tim and wife Ellen of Overland Park, KS and Chris and wife Kathleen of Kitty Hawk, NC. Grandchildren include Zachary Dratch of Washington, DC, Margaret Davidson of Overland Park, KS, Benjamin and wife Meredith of Prarie Village, KS, Mary Kathleen Davidson of Australia and Joseph Davidson of Kitty Hawk, NC. The family would like to thank all of Barbara Sue’s extended family and friends for loving her and being such an important part her life.

The family will receive friends Wednesday, May 22, 2024, from 6-7:30 p.m. at Garrett-Sykes Funeral Service, Ahoskie, NC.

A celebration of life service will be held on Thursday, May 23, 2024, at 11 a.m. at the Mars Hill Baptist Church, Colerain, NC, with Rev. Al Hughson officiating. Burial will follow at Highland Memorial Gardens, Ahoskie, NC.
