GREENVILLE, NC – David Rix Harrell, III of Greenville, passed away on Friday, May 3, 2024.

He was born in Riverside, California to Millicent Greer Harrell and David Rix Harrell, Jr. on February 14, 1961. After the unfortunate death of his mother when he was six years old, he was raised by his grandmother, Bessie Harrell.

David was a SP4 equipment operator for the U. S. Army, and it was when he was stationed in Lawton Fort Sill, Oklahoma where he met his wife, Carol Ann Harrell. They eventually settled in Fayetteville, Arkansas where they had their three children, David Rix Harrell, IV, Stephanie R. Harrell, and Patricia A. Harrell.

After the loss of his father, he made his way to North Carolina where he was reunited with his daughters, Kim Kilpatrick and Dawn Mizelle. It was in North Carolina where he spent most of his days with his family.

David worked as an equipment operator for Apac Barrus Construction, and Tripp Brothers, Inc. On the days that he was not working, he spent them with family; if it wasn’t taking vacation trips to Disney, it was deer hunting or going fishing with all of his daughters.

In his last years, he spent a lot of time with his wife, and getting to know his grandchildren. He started a vegetable garden to pass the time and loved being surrounded by his cats.

David may have been known for a lot of things, but he will be forever remembered as a simple country man who loved his family and couldn’t help but crack a joke.

David was preceded in death by his grandma, Bessie Harrell; grandpa, David Rix Harrell, Sr.; father, David Rix Harrell, Jr.; mother, Millicent Greer Harrell; and son, David Rix Harrell, IV.

He is survived by his wife, Carol Harrell; daughters, Kim Kilpatrick, Dawn Mizelle, Stephanie Harrell, and Patricia A. Harrell; grandchildren, Zander Mizelle, Zachary Mizelle, Hallie Mizelle, Kayleigh Merrill, Kayla Mizelle, Parker Edwards, Caleb Decker, Liliana Decker, and Joshua Kilpatrick; and his sister, Sandra H. Hoggard.

Arrangements are pending and will be announced at a later time by Wilkerson Funeral Home and Crematory in Greenville.
