Arrest made in March 13 murder

WINDSOR – A local man is held here without the privilege of bond after his arrest for murder.

Javyn A’Marion Marqyez Askew, 21, of Mebane Circle, Windsor, was arrested today (Tuesday) and charged in the shooting death of 28-year-old Dashawn Malik Boone.

The deadly shooting took place after 10 p.m. on Mardh 13 at Boone’s residence located in the 1500 block of Hexlena Road near Aulander. Upon their arrival, Bertie Sheriff’s deputies found Boone deceased in the yard of his residence.

Through the ensuing investigation, Bertie Sheriff Tyrone Ruffin said there was sufficient probable cause to obtain arrest warrants for murder on Askew. Ruffin said the North Carolina SBI assisted in the investigation.

He added that the warrants were served today by the Bertie County Sheriff’s Office along with the Down East Drug Task Force and the SBI. Ruffin said Askew was taken into custody without incident and confined in the Bertie-Martin Regional Jail.

The Down East Drug Task Force consist of investigators from the Ahoskie Police Department, Bertie County Sheriff’s Office, Hertford County Sheriff’s Office, and Northampton County Sheriff’s Office.

“My prayers and condolences go out to the family of the victim and the suspect because two young men’s lives were lost due to senseless gun violence,” Sheriff Ruffin said in a press release. “Again I’m very proud of the collaborative efforts with each of the partnering agencies affiliated through the Down East Drug Task Force. I personally want to thank everyone for the time spent working this case.”
