AHOSKIE – Trillium Health Resources recently presented a check for $103,021.60 to the Hertford-Northampton County Opioid Crisis Coalition (HNOCC) to support Opioid Remediation programs in the local community.

This award has resulted in the purchase and distribution of over 3,000 Naloxone Nasal Kits, 2,000 Medication Lock boxes, and 3,000 Deterra Drug Deactivation and Disposal Pouches for the purpose of reducing the number of opioid-related overdoses and deaths.

Roanoke-Chowan Community Health Center (RCCHC) served as fiscal and procurement agent of the awarded dollars.

“We are painfully aware and reminded of the impacts of the Opioid epidemic in our community with every overdose that occurs,” stated Michelle Lewis, Director of Population Health at RCCHC and Chair of HNOCC. “Battling this epidemic requires an all hands on deck, community approach to provide access to life-saving treatment and services. The agencies that comprise the HNOCC are exemplary of collaborative partnerships unified on fulfilling our mission of saving lives through prevention, education, and engagement of our communities in response to the Opioid crisis and epidemic.”

HNOCC provides to Hertford and Northampton County: medication drop boxes and take-back days, education and prevention around opioid use, Naloxone awareness and provision, medication lock boxes, deactivation kits to destroy used medications, information about local treatment facilities, and in partnership with Albemarle Regional Health Services, provided Opiate and Methamphetamine Training for Public Health Workers.
