Hawks soar to season sweep of Trojans

MURFREESBORO – The Chowan women’s basketball team earned the season sweep over rival Mount Olive with a 69-50 win in Conference Carolinas East Divisional action here Wednesday.

The game was part of Play4Kay Night at Chowan. Play4Kay is the largest fundraising initiative of the Kay Yow Cancer Fund. Yow, who coached at NC State, put up a brave fight against breast cancer for 22 years before succumbing to the disease in 2009.

Tynasia Bunting led the Hawks on Wednesday with 23 points, nine rebounds, and six steals. Sydney Roberts tallied 11 points and eight rebounds.

Imani Hickman collected a double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds.

The Hawks scored 46 points in the paint and had 23 second chance points on 33 offensive rebounds.

Chowan (11-8 overall; 11-4 in the conference; and 5-2 in divisional play) hosts Erskine in a Conference Carolinas contest on Saturday, Feb. 17. Tip-off is slated for 2 pm.
