AHOSKIE, NC – Mr. Carlton Ray Smith, 63, died February 5, 2024.

The funeral service was held on Thursday, February 8 at Farmer Funeral Chapel. Burial followed the service in Winterville Cemetery.

Mr. Smith, a native of Pitt County, was living in Ahoskie, North Carolina. He is a graduate of Ayden-Grifton High School. He was a U.S. Army veteran and was stationed in Germany for three years.

Mr. Smith was a sales representative for Rainbow and WaterMatic vacuum cleaners, and also worked at Proctor & Gamble for four years.

He was active in prison ministries, nursing homes, and campground ministries for a number of years.

Mr. Smith was a member of the Christian Motorcycle Club, and the VFW in Ahoskie.

Mr. Smith was a member of Potecasi Baptist Church where he was leader of the senior group and an assistant Sunday school teacher.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Rev. Frank and Edna Smith; and son, Tim Jernigan.

He is survived by his wife of 20 years, Carolyn Godley Smith; daughters, Cynthia S. Woolard and husband, David, and Amanda S. Bass and husband, Justin; step-children, Winson Barnes and wife, Stacey, and Thomas Jernigan and wife, Nicky; grandchildren, Nick, Natalie Bass, Meagan, Natalie Barnes, Carter, Jordan, Dylan, and Leslie; great-grandchild, Arlene; brother, Frank Smith, Jr. and wife, Sharon; and faithful companion, Buddy.

The family received friends on Thursday, prior to the service at Farmer Funeral Home.
