February event recalls impact of Riverside Manufacturing & GP

MURFREESBORO – The Hertford County African American History Coalition invites the public to a free program, “Remembering Riverside and Georgia Pacific in Murfreesboro” that is scheduled from 10 a.m. until 12 noon on Saturday, Feb. 10 at the Murfree Center.

All are welcome at this community event in celebration of Black History Month.

The program will include a photographic exhibit and brief history overview of Riverside Manufacturing’s (later called Georgia Pacific) basket factory operations and its importance to 20th century Murfreesboro.

Light refreshments will be served. Books about local African American history will be on sale.

Attendees are asked to bring photos and other artifacts related to the basket factory with them to put on display. Also, attendees will be able to share testimony during the program. At the end of the event, there will be a group walk from the Murfree Center down Broad Street to the Riverside historic site.
