Ruffin leads Bears past Aces

AHOSKIE – Tyrone Ruffin Jr. scored a career-high 26 points and nearly had a double-double with nine rebounds as Hertford County defeated Edenton-Holmes, 76-67, here Friday night in Northeastern Coastal Conference varsity boys basketball action.

The win kept the Bears unbeaten in the conference (8-0) and they improved to 12-4 overall.

Jaden Robinson added 17 points and 10 rebounds to the winning effort. Rimiez Williams chipped in 11 points and grabbed seven rebounds while Shimere Garris added eight points.

Earlier in the week, Hertford County used a 28-14 run in the third quarter to rally past Currituck County, 79-60, in a conference road game.

Robinson (19), Williams (19), Garris (17), and Ruffin (11) all scored in double figures to lead the Bears. Ruffin added 10 rebounds.

Hertford County’s varsity girls also collected two conference wins this week to improve to 11-5 overall and 7-1 in league play.

On Tuesday at Currituck, Jaliyah Mitchell had a double-double with 19 points and 11 rebounds to lead the Lady Bears to a 49-45 win. Adarielle Townsell also posted a double-double with 10 points and 14 rebounds.

At home on Friday vs. Edenton-Holmes, Mitchell (15 points), Brooklynn White (13) and Townsell (10) all scored in double figures to lead HCHS to a 49-26 victory.
