Ridgecroft girls push win streak to 16 games

AHOSKIE – Ridgecroft School’s varsity girls basketball team extended their win streak to 16 games this week by defeating three conference opponents on the road.

Tuesday, Makenzie Slaughter scored a game-high 19 points to highlight a 50-40 win by the Lady Rams. Hannah Slaughter added 16 points while Kate Chamblee chipped in 12 points.

On Wednesday (Jan. 24), the Lady Rams held off an upset bid at Northeast Academy where they collected a 47-42 win.

Chamblee’s 10 points and 10 rebounds led the way for Ridgecroft. M. Slaughter also hit double digits with 10 points. Klaire Cherry (8 points) and Karley Jo Rose (7) added to the winning effort.

Thursday (Jan. 25) at Pungo Christian, the Lady Rams used a 16-4 run in the third quarter to pull away from a narrow 15-14 halftime lead en route to a 41-24 victory.

M. Slaughter led the way with 15 points and seven assists. Chamblee had a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds.

Camryn Taylor (6 points), Cherry (5), and Molly Brown (4) rounded out the Ridgecroft scoring.

Ridgecroft’s varsity boys also picked up three conference wins this past week, all on the road, to improve to 15-5 overall (5-1 in league play).

On Tuesday at Albemarle School, Nacir Lewis (18 points), Sawyer Chamblee (15), Antron Gray (14), and Frank Jones (12) each scored in double digits as the Rams cruised past the Colts, 79-23.

Wednesday at Northeast Academy, Gray poured in a game-high 24 points to pace Ridgecroft to a 79-31 win. Baylor Edwards (16) and Chamblee (10) also scored in double figures for the Rams.

Judson Smith led Northeast with 13 points.

Thursday at Pungo Christian, the Rams battled back from a 34-31 halftime deficit to notch a 61-57 win.

Gray led the way with 19 points. Bill Vaughan and Edwards each added 12 points and Lewis chipped in 10.
