Chowan women race past Mt. Olive

MOUNT OLIVE – Recording a season high in points, the Chowan women’s basketball team cruised to a 92-76 Conference Carolinas East Division win over rival Mount Olive here Wednesday evening.

The Hawks jumped out to an early advantage and led 34-20 at the end of the first quarter.

For the game, Chowan forced 29 turnovers, with 19 steals, leading to 37 points.

Sydney Roberts posted a career-high 21 points, collecting 12 points from the charity stripe.

Tynasia Bunting scored 15 of her 22 points in the first quarter. Bunting also stuffed the stat sheet with six assists, five steals, and two blocks.

Kaleah Boykin (13) and Imani Hickman (12) and scored in double-figures. Boykin added five rebounds, three assists, and four steals.

A total of Hawks scored at least one basket in the contest.

Chowan (6-6 overall; 6-2 in conference play; 2-2 in the division) returns home to take on league newcomer Young Harris on Saturday, Jan. 20. Tip-off is slated for 2 pm.
