WINTON – The inaugural Forestry Management Landowner meeting in Hertford County is scheduled for 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 7 at the Hertford County Extension Center, 301 W Tryon Street, Winton.

The meeting will begin with a catered meal followed by updates from forestry professionals and program topics as outlined.

Vendors from the industry will be on hand so come early to visit and ask questions about their services.

The majority of woodland owners will generally sell their timber once or twice in their lifetime. Depending on that timing, the question always comes up if and how to reforest the land. What are the options and considerations to be made; reforest or natural regeneration, plant only or bed, does soil types matter, what species and grade of seedling to plant, and is there money to help with planting?

These are all important questions and NC State Extension Forestry Area Specialized Agent Colby Lambert will address these along with giving a timber market update.

Additionally, NC Forestry Service and USDA-NRCS representatives will provide local updates and potential cost-share funding information.

One hour of X,N,G, and D NCDA Pesticide credits will be provided.

Pre-registration is now available at go.ncsu.edu/hertfordforestry. If planning to attend, please register by Jan. 31.

Contact the NC Cooperative Extension Hertford County Center at (252) 358-7822 with any questions.
