COMO, NC – Stephen Frank Pearce, a beloved member of the community, passed away on December 28, 2023, in Hertford County, North Carolina. He was born on January 18, 1955, also in Hertford County, to the late Calvin C. Pearce and Patricia Barrett Pearce. Stephen was called to his eternal rest at the age of 68.

Stephen loved the town of Como, serving on the Como Town Council, as well as the Como Volunteer Fire Department. He also worked with Town of Murfreesboro Police Department and was a Mason as well. Stephen dedicated many years of his life to his work as a Beater Room Operator with Union Camp/International Paper, serving at the Paper Mill until his retirement. He was known for his friendly and talkative nature, always making conversation with anyone he encountered.

Stephen cherished his children and, above all, his grandchildren. Their presence brought immense joy to his life. In his leisure time, Stephen enjoyed the serenity of fishing and challenging his mind with chess games on the computer. He possessed a remarkable heart, constantly putting others before himself. Stephen never met a stranger and would wave at everyone he passed on the road, always hopeful for a familiar face.

During the Vietnam War era, Stephen served his country with pride and honor in the United States Navy. His dedication and service were greatly appreciated. In the midst of grief, let us remember Stephen Frank Pearce’s life with gratitude and love. May he rest peacefully in eternal serenity.

Stephen is preceded in death by his father, Calvin C. Pearce; his mother, Patricia Barrett Pearce; and his brother, Charles Calvin Pearce. He leaves behind a legacy of fond memories and an abundance of love.

Stephen’s memory will forever be cherished in the hearts of his surviving family: his two sons, Joshua Pearce of Portsmouth, VA, and Matthew Pearce (Brandy) of Atlantic, VA; his daughter, Aubrey Pearce (Jacob Swientek) of San Antonio, TX; his three grandsons, Gabriel Pearce of Harrellsville, NC, Declan Pearce of Montross, VA, and Matthew Pearce Jr. of Atlantic, VA; his granddaughter, Ally Pearce of Harrisonburg, VA; his two sisters, Carol Jones of Washington, NC, and Diane P. Jernigan (Bill) of Raleigh, NC; and his brother, Paul Pearce (Tracy) of Murfreesboro, NC. Stephen also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who held a special place in his heart.

A celebration of Stephen’s life will be held with a memorial service on Friday, January 5, 2024, at 2:00 pm at the Meherrin Baptist Church Cemetery in Murfreesboro, NC. Rev.
