Chowan sweeps North Greenville

MURFREESBORO – Chowan University swept North Greenville here Wednesday in Conference Carolinas basketball action at the Hawks Athletic Center.

In the women’s game, Tynasia Bunting poured in a career-high 27 points to lead Chowan to a 65-47 win.

The Hawks started strong, shooting 52.6% from the field in the first quarter where they soared to a 23-5 lead. Chowan led 34-13 at halftime.

Bunting added seven rebounds and six steals. Kaleah Boykin chipped in 10 points and six rebounds. Imani Hickman hauled in 15 rebounds to go with five points. Sydney Roberts collected seven points, five steals, and four assists.

Chowan’s ladies used the win to improve to 2-3 overall and 2-0 in league play.

In the men’s game, Damerius Summers provided a spark off the bench with career highs in points (18) and rebounds (13) to help Chowan post an 82-67 win.

The Hawks ended the contest on a 16-4 run in the final 6:37 after North Greenville got to within 66-63. Chowan held their guests to 3-of-14 shooting in the final 10 minutes of action.

For the game, Chowan limited North Greenville to 4-of-19 shooting (21.1%) from behind the arc.

RJ Wilson also collected a double-double in the contest with 19 points and 13 rebounds to go along with seven assists.

Daylan Askew posted 19 points and four assists. Skyler Davies added six points, nine rebounds, and three blocks.

Chowan’s men improved to 5-4 overall and 1-1 in league play with the win.

Both teams are back in action this weekend in South Carolina with conference outings at Southern Wesleyan. The women get it started with a 2 p.m. tipoff to their game followed by the men’s contest at 4 p.m.
