The Christmas season is a time for giving, especially to those in need, and the Bertie County Sheriff’s Office has devised a way to fill the shoes of Santa Claus.

Sheriff Tyrone Ruffin and his staff have launched “Operation Blue Elf.” It’s a countywide toy drive that provides local citizens with the opportunity to help make

Christmas a little more merry and bright for needy children in Bertie County.

This week (Dec. 11-15), Bertie Sheriff’s deputies will set up outside the entrance of each of the dollar stores located throughout the county. There they will assist the public in accepting donations of toys. Hopefully there will be enough donations to fill the BCSO Tactical Response Unit full of toys.

The toy drive will be located at the following locations for the remainder of this week:

Wednesday, Dec at the Family Dollar in Colerain.

Thursday, Dec 14 at the Family Dollar in Aulander.

Friday, Dec 15 at the Dollar General in Powellsville.

For those unable to get to those locations, donations of toys will be accepted at the Bertie Sheriff’s Office, located at 222 County Farm Road in Windsor.
