AHOSKIE – Ridgecroft School’s varsity girls extended their early-season unbeaten streak to five games here Monday night where the Lady Rams edged past Halifax Academy, 42-37.

Ridgecroft trailed 20-18 at halftime, but used an 11-4 scoring advantage in the third quarter to gain the upper hand. They connected on 6-of-8 free throws in the fourth quarter to seal the win.

“The Halifax game was a grind,” said first-year Lady Rams head coach Billy Jenkins. “We were down a starter and then had to battle foul trouble, but we found a way to win. Some games you have to just figure out a way to finish even though it wasn’t our best performance.”

Makenzie Slaughter and Hannah Slaughter scored 11 points each to lead Ridgecroft. Kate Chamblee and Camryn Taylor added seven and six points respectively.

Hayden Hilton scored 12 points to pace Halifax Academy.

On Nov. 17, the Ridgecroft girls traveled to Rocky Mount where they cruised past Faith Christian, 61-20.
