AHOSKIE – ‘Tis the season for turkey and over 275 local families will enjoy this main course on their Thanksgiving Day table without denting their pocketbook.

For the third consecutive year, Enviva Ahoskie partnered with Ahoskie Mayor Weyling White to host a turkey distribution for town residents on Monday morning. Vehicles lined up along East First Street and waited to receive a turkey from Town of Ahoskie officials and employees and Enviva workers who were set up on the grassy side lot next Hunter’s Funeral Home.

The effort was a collaboration between the Town of Ahoskie, Piggly Wiggly, Howard Hunter III, Roanoke Chowan Community Health Center, and Enviva.

“We would like to thank Enviva and all of our partners for their support with this project,” stated Mayor White. “We appreciate all the volunteers from our different departments who came out to make this year another successful event for our citizens.”

Those in line for the free turkeys also received a pamphlet

from Ahoskie Fire Chief Michael Bradley on how to avoid kitchen fires.

In addition, members of the Roanoke Chowan Community Health Center set up their mobile clinic unit to provide free medical screening services.

Ahoskie Council members David Hunt and Roy Sharpe were not only on hand to show their support, but they toted their share of turkeys as well.

“I thank and commend Mayor White and his Ahoskie team for being truly committed to their community,” stated Enviva’s Community Relations Manager Chris Brown. “We had council members, the police chief, the fire chief, public works director – that’s a total team effort. It says a lot about the Town of Ahoskie. They are a tight-knit community, and Enviva is happy to be a part of it.”
