AHOSKIE – Ahoskie Christian School hosted their annual Alex Parsain Memorial Basketball Tournament here this past weekend.

The tournament is named for former Ahoskie Christian School student Alex Parsain, who died tragically in an auto accident in 2017.  A junior at ACS at the time of his death, Alex was active in the school’s athletic program, having been a member of the basketball team.

“This tip-off tourney is held to commemorate the loss of a great friend. Alex was a student athlete at ACS and would’ve graduated in 2019, but a car accident cut his life short. It’s our way of never forgetting how important life is,” said Ahoskie Christian coach Kelly Perry.

The 2023 tournament was highlighted by the ACS girls winning the first place trophy.

The Lady Warriors played Suffolk Christian in the first round. Featuring a suffocating defense, Ahoskie Christian came out on top, 58-17.

Saturday’s girls’ championship game featured a familiar opponent in Bethel Assembly Christian Academy. BACA made short work of their first round opponent Gramercy, posting a 62-19 victory.

It always seems to be ACS vs BACA when it counts and this game was no different! The Lady Warriors came out on top with some excellent defense and great hustle by winning 67-33.

Morgan Wadsworth of ACS was named Tournament MVP as she scored a combined 75 points in the two games.

On the boys side of the tournament, ACS played Suffolk Christian on Friday night and were firing on all cylinders for a big win, 54-28.

On Saturday, ACS played Gramercy and came up four points short in the championship game, but never gave up, battling hard all the way to the final horn.
