LEWISTON WOODVILLE – Bertie Sheriff Tyrone Ruffin has identified Demetrius Futrell, age 23, as the victim in a homicide here on Wednesday of last week.

Ruffin, in a press release sent this afternoon (Monday), said Bertie County Sheriff’s deputies responded shortly after 1 p.m. on Oct. 25 to the area of Pine Street in Lewiston Woodville in reference to a person suffering from a gunshot wound.

Upon law enforcement’s arrival, Futrell was found deceased.

Ruffin added that investigators with the Bertie County Sheriff’s Office, along with the assistance of the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigations, remain engaged in working this murder case and more details will be released at a later time.
