CLINTON, MISS. – Mississippi College scored twice inside the final six minutes, turning a narrow 24-21 lead into a 38-21 win over Chowan University here Saturday in Gulf South Conference football action.

For the winless Hawks (0-8 overall; 0-6 in the conference) it marked another game where the team showed no quit, but came up short in the end.

Trailing 17-0 at halftime, Chowan scored on the opening possession of the second half when McKee capped a four play drive with his 59 yard run to paydirt. Jose Colunga added the PAT kick.

A little over four and one-half minutes later, Nic Wilson picked off a pass raced 85 yards for a touchdown. Coupled with Colunga’s PAT, Chowan had rallied to within 17-14, a score that remained at the close of the third quarter.

After the home team extended their lead to 24-14 early in the fourth quarter, Chowan rallied again, this time with an eight play, 75 yard march capped by McKee’s two-yard TD pass to Tyree Holloway. Colunga’s kick got the Hawks to within 24-21 with 6:09 left in the game.

However, Mississippi College answered quickly when Marcus Williams returned the ensuing kickoff 95 yards for a touchdown. The Choctaws added another touchdown with 93 seconds remaining thanks to a short drive set-up by an interception off a tipped pass.

McKee led Chowan with 136 yards passing and 77 yards rushing. Holloway was the top receiver with three receptions for 53 yards.

Mississippi College rushed for 261 yards with two players over 100 yards each.

Evan McGhee and Dwayne Smith led Chowan with nine tackles each.

Chowan returns home for the final time this season as the Hawks host West Alabama on Saturday, Oct. 28 for Senior Day and Hall of Fame Day. Kick-off is slated for 1 pm.
