Raindrops fail to deter Fall Fling 5K participants

AHOSKIE – Footsteps were greeted by raindrops here Saturday morning, but the Fall Fling Festival 5K went on as planned.

Fifty-two runners participated in the event. They started at the Ahoskie Town Hall on Main Street and covered the 3.1 mile course that wound its way through the residential area adjacent to ECU Health Roanoke-Chowan Hospital, then to the Ahoskie Creek Recreation Park, and back to the Town Hall.

ECU Health Wellness Center in Ahoskie staged the event.

The overall male/female winners were Jose Pacheco of Williamston with a time of 22 minutes and 53 seconds, and Sharon Stauffer of Woodland who covered the course in 27 minutes and 25 seconds.

Age group winners were as follows:

Male (10-16): Isaac Shafer of Ahoskie (24:47)

Female (10-16): Sara Guzman of Ahoskie (36:10)

Male (17-29): Conner Munford of Ahoskie (24:42)

Female (17-29) Kiersten Stauffer of Ahoskie (27:47)

Male (30-39): Dominique Twyman of Ahoskie (31:25)

Female (30-39): Keri Askew of Eure (27:29)

Male (40-49): James Shafer of Ahoskie (22:56)

Female (40-49): Trina Calderado of Ahoskie (29:14)

Male (50-59): Adolfo Pagola of Ahoskie (25:12)

Female (50-59): Wanda Carter of Ahoskie (43:30)

Male (60+): Monte Thompson of Harrellsville (27:59)

Female (60+) Ida Harris of Ahoskie (38:44)

Each of the winners received a trophy plus a gift certificate to the ECU Health Wellness Center.
