AHOSKIE – A street side shooting here Tuesday afternoon led to the immediate lockdown of Ahoskie Christian School.

There were no reports of injuries.

Ahoskie Police Chief Jimmy Asbell said the shooting occurred at the four-way stop intersection of Myers, Kiwanis, and Jessie streets.

Asbell stated that the investigation by his officers led them to discover that a vehicle, driven and occupied by several juveniles, came up to that intersection around 2 p.m. Meanwhile, there was a male pedestrian at the same intersection.

“The occupants of the vehicle and the pedestrian exchanged gunfire,” Asbell said.

He added that the pedestrian fled on foot and the vehicle left the scene prior to the police arriving.

“We were able to later discover the location of the vehicle and issued juvenile petitions against two young people for carrying concealed weapons,” Asbell said.

He added that the investigation continues. Those with information to share are encouraged to contact the Ahoskie Police Department at 252-332-5011.
