Pungo edges past Northeast Academy

LASKER – Pungo Christian Academy scored a pair of fourth quarter touchdowns to edge past Northeast Academy, 24-12, here Friday night.

Pungo’s Quay Artis accounted for all of his team’s scoring, rushing for four touchdowns on runs of 62, 61, 42, and 34 yards. The final two came in the fourth quarter where the two teams were locked in a 12-12 stalemate.

Trailing 12-0, Northeast rallied to forge a halftime tie.

Dawson Vann’s five-yard TD run at the 2:42 mark of the first quarter got the Eagles to within 12-6 after the conversion run failed.

Dalton Vann tied the game on his 26-yard scamper with only 17 seconds left in the first half.

Dalton Vann led the Northeast offense with 105 rushing yards on 19 carries. Marshall Medford added 66 yards on 18 rushing attempts and Dawson Vann finished with 37 yards on 10 carries.

William Coggins had seven tackles, to include two behind the line of scrimmage, to lead Northeast defensively. Dawson Vann and Nathan Trevino each added five tackles.

Northeast fell to 3-4 overall with the loss. They will travel to Kinston this Friday (Oct. 13) to face Bethel Academy.
