AULANDER – A convicted felon in possession of a handgun wound up in jail on Saturday after the Bertie Sheriff’s Office responded to a domestic dispute that reportedly involved a weapon.

Rahjon Nick Green Jr., age 25 of Aulander, was arrested and charged with possession of a firearm by a felon, possession of a concealed handgun, and resisting a public officer. He was jailed under a $5,000 secured bond.

Bertie Sheriff Tyrone Ruffin said deputies were dispatched to a report of a domestic in progress at a residence on Commerce Street in Aulander. While county units were responding, Bertie E-911 Communications advised that the female victim had left the residence and was in a safe location.

Sgt. D. Young and Deputy B. Manning arrived on scene where they were met by Aulander Police Chief E. Hoggard and Deputy R. Dozier.

After speaking with the two individuals on scene, Sgt. Young was able to obtain consent to search a vehicle at the residence. Chief Hoggard located a Taurus 9mm with an extended 30 round magazine under the passenger seat.

While securing the firearm, Green fled on foot. After a foot pursuit, Deputy Dozier, with the assistance of the other county units, took the suspect into custody without further incident.
