Chowan teams earn draws at Francis Marion

FLORENCE, SC – Both of Chowan’s soccer matches ended in ties here Tuesday at Francis Marion University in

Conference Carolinas East Division action.

In the men’s match, Chowan used an unassisted goal from Leke Ademola in the 40th minute to forge a 1-0 lead. However, FMU scored the equalizer in the 80th minute on a goal from Martin Gomez Juanche to salvage a tie.

Ademola, Abdoulie Sanneh, and Hylnur Fridriksson posted two shots each for the Hawks in the contest.

Chase Jansen tallied four saves.

Francis Marion is ranked sixth in the Southeast Region.

Chowan improved to 3-0-1 in their last four matches.

In the women’s match, Chowan’s Karla Artolozaga scored a goal in the 78th minute to rally the Hawks to a 2-2 tie against Division leader FMU, who is ranked #10 in the Southeast Region.

Brielle Dumont and Natasha Bailey were credited with assists on Artolozaga’s goal.

Bailey, off assists from Lieke Van den Akker and Tessa Whitley, scored Chowan’s first goal in the 29th minute.

Both teams will be in action on Saturday at King University.
