AHOSKIE – In an enthusiastic move to rejuvenate and repurpose the historic Robert L Vann campus, the Robert L Vann Resource Center, consisting of past attendees, friends, and community members, has successfully acquired the esteemed grammar and high school halls this past April.

A passionate call to action is being sounded to the community at large. Do you have a vision? An idea that can breathe new life into this cherished landmark? The Resource Center is eager to harness the collective imagination of the people, seeking proposals that would benefit the educational, recreational, housing, economic, and spiritual fabric of the community.

A community meeting will be held from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 2. Part one of the gathering will be held from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. at New Ahoskie Baptist Church, located at 401 East Hayes Street. The Golden Harmoneers will open with songs of celebration and hope. There will be a brief introduction that will pave the way for everyone to share their creative visions for the transformation of the campus.

Part two, attendees are invited to the very heart of the initiative, the Robert L Vann campus located at 415 East Holloman Avenue. From 1-3 p.m., attendees can enjoy complimentary hot dogs and hamburgers, tour the primary building and grounds, reminisce, and engage in fruitful discussions about the future of the grounds.

While the past students of Robert L Vann are expected to turn up in large numbers, this event is by no means exclusive. The entire community is invited to share your ideas and express an interest to support this project.

“We want your voice. We want your vision. Together, let’s preserve this rich history while also turning it into something beneficial and accessible to the community, at-large,” stated one of the event’s local organizers.
