MILWAUKEE – Marvin William Martin, beloved brother and uncle, passed away peacefully on August 20, 2023, at the age of 86. He was born on June 25, 1937, in Northampton County, North Carolina, to the late Ravie L. Martin and Ruby Askew Martin. Marvin dedicated his life to farming.

Marvin William Martin, born on June 25, 1937, in Northampton County, North Carolina, will be remembered as a dedicated farmer, a talkative individual who brought joy to many lives, and someone who loved spending time with children on his farm. He will forever hold a special place in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. May his soul rest in eternal peace.

Marvin had a zest for life and enjoyed talking on the CB radio and was known by his handle “Swamp Possum”, building strong connections with numerous friends. He cherished outings to local eateries and always found joy in engaging conversations. Marvin had a special fondness for children, often taking them for rides around the farm on his trailer.

Marvin is preceded in death by his father, Ravie L. Martin; mother, Ruby Askew Martin; sister, Virginia Martin Gilliam; sister, Evelyn Martin Strickland; niece, Billie Jo Rose; niece, Rose Strickland; nephew, Randy Strickland; nephew, Johnny Strickland; and nephew, Dixie Paul Gilliam.

He is survived by his sister, Mona Martin Rose of Ahoskie, NC; two nieces, Bonnie Blowe (Mike) of Ahoskie, NC and Kathy Dunlow (Andy) of Ahoskie, NC. Additionally, Marvin leaves behind many dear friends and extended family members who will cherish his memory.

A visitation for Marvin was held on Tuesday, August 22, 2023 at Garrett-Sykes Funeral Service, Ahoskie, NC.

A celebration of life graveside funeral service will take place on Wednesday, August 23, 2023 at 2 p.m. at the Milwaukee Cemetery in Conway, NC, with Carol Taylor officiating.
